Instead of “having a reserve” in your accounts, just consider asking the teller at the bank that you don’t want their “protection”, IE, their extortion. You have to ask to have them shut this “service” off for you, as it comes standard on all new accounts, and yes it’s a little embarrassing to be declined at the check out counter, but it’s a hell of a lot less aggravating that receiving 70 dollars in “returned check” fees.
