Not all of these tools are not needed up front, some are intended to simply make the work go easier and faster, they can be acquired over time.
About the business
This is a business where speed counts the faster you are the more money you make.
Many carpet installers start out as apprentices while learning the trade and acquire the tools before they go out on there own. This is recommend especially if you intend on installing higher end carpet.
Depending on what level you intend on starting the cost will vary. If you’re new to the business I recommend starting with apartments. Nearly every time someone moves out of an apartment the carpets will need to be replaced, most apartments use a lower grade of carpet that’s easier to install and less of a liability. This also means that there will be lots of potential customers available.
The carpet installation business is one that requires that you have a vehicle you can use to move large rolls of carpeting and padding. You should own a truck or van before starting out.
Getting Customers
In the carpet business many of your customers will come from referrals over time, the better job you do the more referrals you’ll receive. In order to get customers up front will require some marketing and selling of your service.
Consider contacting apartment complexes owners and managers. Take out an ad in the yellow pages. Set up a small business website. Leave advertisements on local bulletin boards. Door to door flyer distribution is also a great way to bring in some extra business.
